What is Black Friday?
Historically, Black Friday falls on the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, marking when the holiday shopping period commences. Widely regarded as one of the biggest shopping days of the year, it’s believed the day received its official nickname from businesses ‘being in the black’ – which means to turn a profit. Black Friday has started to take off in Australia, despite being an American holiday. This year, the market researchers at Roy Morgan estimate that Australians will spend a record $6.2 billion when shopping sales this year.
