A Guide to A Taste of The Hills Festival

Head for the Hills this weekend for one of the foodie festivals of the year.

Experience the unparalleled flavours of the Adelaide Hills at A Taste of The Hills Festival, set against the stunning backdrop of Heysen – The Cedars in Hahndorf.

This festival is more than just a culinary adventure; it’s a celebration of local businesses, community spirit, and the vibrant essence of the region. Indulge in farm-fresh delights and sample award-winning beverages crafted by passionate local producers. Here’s what to expect at this year’s festival…

Taste

True to the festival’s namesake, there’s a lot to taste and explore at this epic festival for the senses.

With Easter just around the corner, stock up on some choccies at Stirling’s chocolate café, Red Cacao. From truffles and ganache to chocolate coated almonds and vegan treats, each delight is crafted with meticulous attention to detail.

Spice things up with a taste of Choo Roo chilli sauce. The family owned and operated chilli sauce and condiments company based in Macclesfield specialise in fresh, local ingredients and sustainable produce. Plus, they also produce a range of alcohol-infused hot sauces, a variety of different rubs and salts, as well as some spicy fruits and nuts. Best of all? All of Choo Roo’s products are vegan, and most are gluten-free. A portion of all of its event proceeds is also donated to the CFS Foundation, so with every purchase you are also helping volunteer firefighters and their families.

There’s also a heap of local food trucks to fuel your energy as you explore all the region has to offer. Take your pick from Cheesy Street’s gourmet loaded grilled cheese sandwiches, or dig into a burrata cheese bowl made using fresh South Aussie produce by Project Burrata! Its delicate mozzarella shell and velvety curd centre is complemented by a symphony of fresh fruits and vibrant vegetables.

Don’t forget to finish off with OMG Decadent Donuts. Adelaide Hills has mastered the art of creating hot, fresh donuts that are not just delicious but also cater to various dietary needs! These heavenly treats are dusted in a range of unique, handcrafted sugars, made from the freshest Australian fruits, spices, and even vegetables.

Listen

Musicians from around Australia, including local talent, take centre stage. Don’t miss contemporary folk and pop tunes from singer-songwriter, Ollie English, who was raised in the Adelaide Hills, and local sisters Ella and Sienna. Inspired by artists such as Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters and Ed Sheeran, the multi-instrumentalist siblings bring together a unique blend of pop influences.

Experience

Make your way around the region, engaging in foodie masterclasses and tours. A couple of our top picks include an interactive cooking session with Native Australian Food Co. during its exclusive ‘A Journey of Native Australian Food’. Engage your senses as you taste, smell, and experience a plethora of unique flavours and products. Begin your journey with a refreshing cup of Lemon Myrtle tea, followed by a tasting extravaganza featuring native fruits such as Fingerlimes, Juniper, Quandongs, Green Ants, Karkalla and more. Bookings are essential, so head here for more info.

There’s also a decadent oyster and wine pairing masterclass with Nepenthe Wines, a paint n’ sip experience with Brushflicks paint studio teamed with HillTilly Gin, or a farm tour of the world-renowned skincare brand, Jurlique, just 10 minutes from Hahndorf. Watch as they unveil the journey of growing, harvesting, drying, and extracting natural ingredients for their world-renowned skincare products.
