How Brunzii is redefining after-tan skincare

For a spring refresh, a golden glow is often the first step in many people’s beauty routines. But, if common gripes like patchy application or fast fading are causing frustration, then the solution might lie in addressing your overall skin health. We spoke to Kayla Stevens, founder of Adelaide Spraytans and Brunzii, to find out about her range of products and why well-cared-for skin is key to a glowing, healthy tan.
Tell us a bit about your background and experience in the tanning industry.
I’ve been working in the beauty industry for over 20 years, and I’ve always loved the confidence that a good tan can give someone. I started Adelaide Spraytans (formerly The Afterglow Spraytans) in 2020, and being able to troubleshoot with my clients in pursuit of that perfect glow became my passion. I don’t just want to create a beautiful colour, I want the skin underneath it to be cared for, too.
What sparked the idea for Brunzii?
Brunzii was created from the idea that skincare shouldn’t be something you think about as separate from your tan. If you look after your skin properly, you’re supporting the health and feel of your skin while creating a canvas that’s easier for your tan to adhere to. It isn’t about putting more products on your shelf for the sake of it, but making what you use between tanning appointments work harder for your skin and your glow.
What’s the link between healthy skin and a well-developed tan?
For me, this is the whole reason Brunzii exists. A tan sits on the outer layers of your skin, so the condition of that skin makes a huge difference to how your tan develops and fades. When skin is dry, dehydrated or flaky, a tan can develop unevenly and fade in patches. When the skin is well hydrated and cared for, you have a much smoother, more even tan.
Take us through the products in the Brunzii range.
The range was designed to simplify your tanning routine. Refresh is the starting point. It’s a pH-balanced body wash designed to gently cleanse without leaving the skin feeling dry or stripped. Maintain is the daily hydrating lotion. It keeps skin soft, hydrated and comfortable, which is essential for maintaining an even tan. Restore is a rich, fragrance-free body butter designed for those areas that need a little more love, like the dry skin on elbows and knees.
For the tanning products, there’s Mist You So Much, our face and skin tanning mist. It combines skincare-focused ingredients with a gradual tanning effect, so you can build a natural-looking glow while taking care of your skin. Finally, Mousse Be Dreamin’ is our premium self-tanning mousse. It’s designed to give you that beautiful, bronzed result while incorporating skin-loving ingredients into the tanning step.
The idea is that the products work together rather than being separate steps that compete with each other. Cleanse first, then hydrate and tan to finish.
Your tan is only as good as the skin underneath it. If you look after your skin consistently, then the colour will look better, fade better and generally last better. That’s really the philosophy behind Brunzii: happy skin holds a better tan.
Kayla’s top three tanning tips
Hydration is number one. Moisturise every day and directly after your shower, when your skin needs it the most. Keeping the skin hydrated helps your tan fade more evenly and prevents that dry, patchy look.
Your shower routine can have a big impact on how long your tan lasts. Use a gentle, pH-balanced body wash rather than anything harsh or overly stripping.
When it’s time for your next tan, don’t keep layering new colour over old. Give your skin a proper reset with gentle exfoliation, so you’re starting with a clean, even canvas.
