Family-owned custom builder Diaz Homes take a personal approach when it comes to constructing their clients’ dream homes
Operating out of Kensington Park, Diaz Homes is a boutique builder founded by husband-and-wife duo David and Alicia Girolamo. The family-owned venture takes a personal approach to every project, marked by care for their clients and hands-on involvement at every stage of the process. They work from the understanding that every client’s wish list is different, and their home should reflect that.
Diaz Homes’ end results speak for themselves, with a growing portfolio of exceptional projects and glowing client testimonials. However, for Alicia and Dave, the most crucial work takes place in the planning stages. The ‘one size fits all’ refrain has no place here. The Diaz approach is defined by understanding how a client’s home will be lived in.
“There are plenty of builders who can build a beautiful home,” Alicia remarks, “but not everyone creates an experience where clients genuinely feel cared for, listened to and supported from beginning to end.” At the beginning, orientation, natural light, spatial flow and proportion are all duly considered. By the end, all spaces connect seamlessly, creating an ease and functionality that cannot be retrofitted.
The Diaz display home in Tranmere is a bricks and mortar (or, more accurately, a stone and timber) example of their work. As a natural foil to high gloss finishes and millennial grey, the home’s soul is instead guided by wabi-sabi. The Japanese philosophy accepts life’s transience and finds beauty in imperfection. With that as a touchstone, texture, warmth and natural materials abound. The effect is a calming, grounded space that also happens to be Alicia and Dave’s family home. Clients can observe the Diaz difference in practice, at the heart of their home that is loved, lived in and shaped by real life.
For the duo, it’s that bigheartedness that sets them apart. They aren’t just building homes for their clients, but relationships with them. “Because we’re a family business,” Alicia says, “our clients deal directly with Dave throughout the entire journey, and by the end of the build they’ve often become genuine friends. We celebrate milestones with them, know their families and many of them come back to build with us again or refer their closest friends and family!”
This approach transforms what can often be a stressful process into one that is collaborative, reassuring and built on trust. As Dave explains, “We know building a home is one of the biggest investments a family will ever make, so every decision is made with care. We genuinely want the entire journey to be just as rewarding as the finished home.”
