More Than Weddings

Glen Ewin has cemented itself as the premier destination for whimsical weddings and fig picking, but the location is more than high-end events and summertime fun. With the Adelaide Hills as its backdrop, the estate has carved out a space for long wintertime lunches at its Gatehouse restaurant and cellar door, boasting a new seasonal menu to match.

The new winter menu, designed by executive chef Jason Theng, features dishes championing locally sourced produce, drawing inspiration from the seasonal land surrounding Glen Ewin and Theng’s culinary interests.

Indulge in OBE free-range beef sirloin with bay leaf butter and fig jus, crispy pork belly atop preserved mustard greens and drizzled in a fig and vinegar sauce, or duck and gin sausages with a slathering of the famed Glen Ewin fig chutney.

Figs are an integral aspect of the Glen Ewin Estate and feature prominently throughout Theng’s creations. The honeyed fruit shines in sourdough loaves, dollops of preserves and fig gin caramels covering sticky rice desserts. Pair the subtly sweet flavours with nips of estate-made gin or a glass of Glen Ewin Gatehouse wine.

Inside the light and lofty restaurant combines rustic charm with contemporary style. The floor-to-ceiling windows welcome the natural surroundings with an option to reside on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Gatehouse restaurant lake. With ample heating and shelter, the alfresco area offers guests the chance to soak up the seasonal excellence.

Alternatively, explore the property after lunch. The usually lush Lower Hermitage estate oozes wintertime magic. Deciduous trees frame Glen Ewin (think falling leaves of burnt orange and gold), kangaroos skip through the pruned Willabrand Fig Orchard, and an 1800s homestead is perched on the edge of the lake. Winter is done best in the Adelaide Hills.

Lunch is served from Thursday to Sunday between 11am and 2:30pm inside the charming Gatehouse restaurant. Head online to book or call 08 8380 5657 and speak to the friendly staff. Find Glen Ewin Estate at 43 Lower Hermitage Road, Lower Hermitage.
