Nineteen years and counting, Emali Early Learning Centre prepare to break new ground with their impressive 10th location set to open its doors early 2026
Established almost two decades ago, Emali Early Learning Centre are the trailblazers for early education in South Australia. With their impressive 10th location opening in North Plympton early 2026, we spoke with the team about what this occasion means for them, and what families can expect from the newly restored heritage location.
Emali Early Learning Centres is about to open its 10th location – what does this milestone mean for you as a South Australian owned and operated organisation?
Opening our 10th location is a huge milestone for Emali Early Learning Centres as a proudly South Australian owned and operated organisation. It reflects the trust local families place in us and affirms our commitment to providing high-quality care and meaningful learning experiences. Being locally owned means we’re deeply connected to our communities, allowing us to tailor each centre to local needs and create safe, nurturing places where young children and families truly feel a sense of belonging.
The new centre is being created within a restored heritage home. Can you tell us about the vision behind transforming the property into a purpose-built learning space?
Transforming the heritage property into a learning space was inspired by a vision to create a true home away from home. From the warmth of its sandstone façade to the light-filled rooms and high ceilings, the building naturally evokes a sense of calm and belonging. Thoughtfully restoring the original home and complementing it with modern extensions has allowed the character to shine, creating a safe, inspiring environment for children and families to enjoy for years to come.
How did feedback from families, children and educators shape the design of the new North Plympton centre?
Family, child and educator feedback – gathered over nearly two decades at Emali Early Learning Centres –strongly shaped the design of the North Plympton centre. Understanding the evolving needs of young families inspired inclusive features such as expansive outdoor play areas and a dedicated Sensory Space. Building on innovations like the on-site barn at Littlehampton and the bike track at Brighton, the new centre reflects Emali’s commitment to responsive, community-focused learning environments.
The dedicated sensory room sounds like a standout feature. What inspired its inclusion, and how will it support children’s development?
The dedicated Sensory Space was inspired by a desire to better support children with diverse developmental requirements. Designed in collaboration with Occupational Therapists, it provides specialist equipment to help children self-regulate, strengthen sensory development and build social connection. By supporting confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing in the early years, the space helps lay strong foundations for lifelong learning and a positive sense of identity and self-worth.
For families in North Plympton and surrounding suburbs who may be discovering Emali for the first time, what can they expect from this new centre – and how can they get involved ahead of the early 2026 opening?
Families in North Plympton can expect beautiful, thoughtfully designed learning spaces and an experienced team of teachers and educators who create a warm, welcoming environment. The centre will cater for children from six weeks to school-ready age.
