An iconic landmark enters its new era. Get ready to rediscover The Buckingham.
The Buckingham Arms has stood as a local landmark since 1849; a familiar anchor on the edge of Gilberton. And now, after more than 170 years, the heritage hotel is starting its next chapter. The Buckingham – a $150 million residential project by full-service property developer Citify –will reimagine the former public house as a contemporary community while keeping its history firmly in view.

Contemporary + Considered
The Buckingham’s 172 residences harness natural light, sweeping parkland views and its heritage roots to create a new kind of city-fringe comfort. Here, effortless luxury and everyday convenience set the tone for contemporary living. “The aesthetic of the residences at The Buckingham is defined by refined simplicity, natural warmth and thoughtful elegance,” says Citify’s Managing Director, Joel Wilkinson, of the development’s considered design.
Future tenants will have the option of choosing from one, two, three or four bedroom layouts, each carefully crafted to maximise space and capture the scenes of the meandering River Torrens, with seven exclusive sky homes the crown jewel of the redevelopment. Each apartment balances elegance with functionality – think expansive glazing, filtered sunlight and materials designed to last. Rooms will be fitted with engineered oak flooring in high-traffic areas, with plush carpeting bringing warmth to bedrooms. In the kitchen, take advantage of entertaining guests stress free thanks to the burn and scratch resistant engineered stone benchtop and top-of-the-range Fisher& Paykel appliances.

The Buckingham’s heritage, which dates back to 1849, grounds the project’s modern feel. Citify has developed three distinctive colour palettes – Vincent, Seymour and Hannah – each namesake a nod to the families who steered the hotel’s impressive 175-year history. These curated sets of colours add depth to the light-drenched spaces and are timeless by design, elevating the enduring energy of each home. However, The Buckingham’s historic edge doesn’t mean the development isn’t future-focused. Water sensitive urban design has been integrated in the on-site watering systems, with a further six per cent of the development given back to open spaces and north-facing courtyards.
“The Buckingham development stands apart in Adelaide for its rare combination of heritage soul, architectural refinement, lifestyle-focused design and an amenity offering that far exceeds what is typically found in apartment living,” Joel continues. “It’s a once in a lifetime location that will never be repeated in the area.”

Everyday Elevated
It’s the lifestyle The Buckingham encourages that sets this development apart. Minutes from the buzz of the CBD and the tree-lined streets of North Adelaide, the site laps the action of Adelaide while enjoying the quiet tranquility of Gilberton. Spend the weekend discovering the boutiques on Melbourne Street, witnessing thrilling sport at Adelaide Oval or soaking up culture at the State Gallery of South Australia – all only a short distance from your new address. Some of the best restaurants, cafes and wine bars are also at the tips of your fingers – think Rita’s Bar and Restaurant, Pastel Wine Bar and FIX. Speciality Coffee – giving the development a cosmopolitan edge without sacrificing its distinct heritage feel. Of course, dining will also return to The Buckingham. Citify plans to reinstate the site’s iconic hotel, reimagining the ground level into a contemporary hub that’s defined by incredible local flavours.

Balance sits at the heart of TheBuckingham project. The development intends to curate its social areas to reflect that of a resort, including a sanctuary-like wellness precinct that will feature a private pool, sauna and spa. Beyond this, there are also plans fora fully equipped gym and on-site café for residents to use. Or, get outside and take advantage of Gilberton’s postcode. The site is a stone’s throw from acres of greenery, including Lefevre Park (a family-favourite for its horse paddock and playground), Bragg Park, Joslin Reserve and Botanic Park. What’s more, it’s these elements that’ll attract the community of like-minded individuals to the development – people who want comfort and connection without sacrificing the character of the area.
And, while everyday luxury is the standard here, so is convenience –there’ll be parcel lockers, storage areas, in-house dry cleaning, 240 underground parking spaces and a dedicated dog wash station to make your life just a little bit easier.
