What began as a husband-and-wife venture has grown into a boutique team of passionate specialists dedicated to crafting bespoke homes with care, precision, and heart. With the recent unveiling of their reimagined designer studio, we sat down with founders Troy and Carmel Klemm about their bold new chapter, elevating the client experience, and why for this pair, it’s more than just a home – it’s personal.

You’ve been a partnership for over 12 years, what was the driving force behind starting a business together, and how did this unfold?

Troy’s strength has always been in construction – he’s all about precision, process, and getting the execution just right. Carmel’s background is in interior architecture– her focus has always been on creating spaces that are intentional, functional, and deeply personal. Bringing those two worlds together felt like a natural evolution. We wanted to build something that reflected both of our strengths.

Living in South Australia, are there specific places that you draw inspiration from for your designs?

Absolutely – South Australia is a constant source of inspiration. From the rolling beauty of the Adelaide Hills to the relaxed vibe of our coastal areas, the landscape offers so much to draw from. It’s not just about reflecting the surroundings, it’s about designing homes that truly suit the way people live.

You collaborated with Stefan Vignogna for the design of your recently refurbished lounge and designer studio. What was the inspiration behind the beautifully curated space?

The inspiration was twofold: to create a space that reflected our brand, and to elevate the client experience.We wanted every visit to feel inspiring, calm, and layered with thoughtful detail– just like the homes we build.

Tell us about the importance of working with a select number of clients each year, and how this shapes the Klemm experience

We believe a home is the most personal thing you’ll ever create. By focusing on a select number of clients each year, we can be truly hands-on. The process starts with welcoming people into our own home, which sets the tone for the journey – intimate, relational, and highly personalised. Clients get to know not only us, but our whole team, our suppliers, and our trades.

How has the Klemm Homes team and business evolved over the last 10 years?

What began as a husband-and-wife operation has grown into a boutique team of specialists. Our team is like family, and the wheels simply couldn’t turn without such a strong and talented group behind us. The Klemm ethos of care, detail, and collaboration runs through everything we do.

Tell us more about the process of working with Klemm Homes from start to finish.

Our process begins with listening. We spend time understanding our clients – how they live, what they value, and what inspires them. From there, we shape a brief, guide them through an immersive design experience, and remain hands-on during construction.

You’ve recently rebranded and refurbished your head office. What are some features that your future clients can expect to see?

Our new lounge and designer studio were created with clients front of mind. We wanted a space that reflects the homes our clients are building – calm, refined, and inspiring. It’s a place where materials can be explored, decisions can be made with confidence, and conversations feel effortless. There brand and refurbishment represent more than aesthetics; they symbolise a new chapter in the Klemm story.

Ten years on, what does the business mean to you and your community today?

Klemm Homes is both part of our family story and part of our community. Over the years, we’ve built homes that have become legacies – places where families grow, celebrate, and create memories.Being recognised as a BDO Fast Movers finalist and unveiling our new identity this year has been about turning the page to the next chapter. Today, Klemm Homes represents trust, connection, and the privilege of shaping homes that mean so much more than bricks and mortar.
