A morning spent with two Adelaide favourites; Jess Dover talks investment pieces at Terrace Floors + Furnishings

For homeowner Jess Dover, tying a new space together goes beyond comfort – it extends to investing in enduring pieces that withstand trends, furry friends, and little ones too. With an impeccable eye for meticulous style and a natural inclination for curating warm, lived-in spaces, who better to sit down with in Terrace Floors + Furnishings’ beautiful showroom to discuss all things home, living, and timeless furniture.

What are your top picks for the home from Terrace Floors + Furnishings?
I am loving the Kave Home, Granite range – their dining chairs, and their indoor armchair is really beautiful and goes very much with a style thatI love, which leans toward classic and timeless pieces.

What does timeless furniture mean to you – and why is that concept important?
I love the idea of having pieces that can take you through so many years and chapters of your life – you want to invest in pieces that will stand the test of time and mould with the different stages of your life. You can add different touches and change things, but it’s really those base pieces that are timeless with your family.

Tell us your go-to tips for creating a home that evolves with your lifestyle – especially with kids?
Definitely good quality pieces. I’ve learned over time that you can really tell the difference in pieces that aren’t built with integrity. I think if you’ve got a family, it’s about choosing those key pieces to invest in, but you don’t need to invest in every single piece in your home. We have a beautiful rug from Terrace Floors + Furnishings in a really high traffic area that’s lasting beautifully.

How easy is it to mix and match pieces from Terrace Floors + Furnishings for versatility and creativity?
There’s such an amazing range here atTerrace – it’s dependent on what style you’re going for, but so many of the pieces are incredibly versatile and classic. You can definitely put your own touch on it, whatever that may be. Looking around, I can see so many pieces that would work really well in my home.

What’s one item from Terrace Floors + Furnishings that you think every young family should have in their home?
Now that I’m in my new home, I would say a good quality rug. It makes such a difference sitting on it, watching the wear and tear with my Bernese mountain dog and my five-year-old; and being a high foot traffic area, but it still looks brand new.

Having just completed your new home, how important was it for you to support local businesses here in Adelaide throughout that process?
It was really exciting working so closely with so many amazing SA brands with the build. It felt really special, talking with the owners of brands, seeing the pieces in person, building a home that was partly built by all SA businesses. I’m such an advocate for SA (I’ll promote it until the cows come home), I really love Adelaide.

If you had to choose just three key furniture pieces every home should invest in, what would they be?
A nice couch. A lot of people say the centre of their home is the kitchen, but I feel like it’s my lounge room. Also, a good rug, and dining chairs or bar stools. You can always tell the difference when you’ve got some beautiful chairs to sit on.
