Championing SA art for decades, Chapel Hill has long been a destination where landscape and creativity come together. Now, the winery is expanding its support for local artists with the launch of the Chapel Hill Horizons Art Prize.
The inaugural award invites South Australian artists to explore the theme of Horizons – the line where the earth meets the sky or the symbolism behind what can be attained, celebrating the local landscape of McLaren Vale and its future vision.
“Chapel Hill is defined by its spectacular surrounds. Every day we take inspiration from the beautiful landscape” says Chief Winemaker, Michael Fragos, when reflecting on what inspired the prize’s subject.
Finalists will have their work displayed at Chapel Hill during this year’s SALA festival until September 6. Visitors will be able to see the exhibition of local talent while enjoying world-class wine and vineyard views. The competition will later be judged by a panel of notable industry names, with the winning artist receiving a $5000 prize.
This new initiative is an extension of winery’s long-standing commitment to the arts, which started when Chapel Hill hosted Adelaide Festival events in the ’70s. Today, it is home to an ever-growing permanent art collection, with a space reserved for the forthcoming Horizons prize winner.
Local artists specialising in painting, photography, drawing, mixed media and print are encouraged to apply, with entries open until July 14, 2025.
