The opening of Armadillo’s first Adelaide atelier marks a homecoming in style.

Sustainable luxury rug label Armadillo has unveiled its newest atelier in Adelaide, marking a meaningful return home for the brand’s co-founders, Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst. It’s the eighth location Armadillo has opened since it began in 2009 and its launch further celebrates an exciting partnership with the atelier’s location – Terrace Floors + Furnishings, which Sally’s family has led for the last 25 years. 

“Jodie and I have always considered Adelaide home, so opening this atelier is a full-circle moment for us,” Sally says. “The quality of residential and commercial projects coming out of South Australia today is truly exceptional so we’re thrilled that Armadillo can now directly service its visionary design community.”

Armadillo is world-renowned for its handcrafted rugs that balance sustainable craftsmanship with timeless design. This guiding ethos is reflected throughout the design of the new atelier, designed by the brand’s long-time collaborator, Studio Goss, who previously lent their skills to previous fit-outs in Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles. Harnessing Armadillo’s international lens on design, architect David Goss delivered an elevated space that leans into a palette of natural timber, solid brass and blackened steel. 

“The atelier format reflects our considered approach to curating spaces in dynamic design locales,” Jodie says. “These intimate, refined settings enable design professionals and design enthusiasts alike to fully immerse themselves in our brand and engage with our collection at their own pace.”

Celebrating 25 years of industry excellence, Terrace Floors + Furnishings works in harmony with the Armadillo atelier. The global brands on offer in the Eastwood showroom include Gus Modern, Kave Home and Ethnicraft. This new space is a next chapter in the business’ storied history and an exciting opportunity for Adelaide. 

Open Monday to Saturday, with no appointment necessary, Armadillo’s Adelaide atelier has an inviting atmosphere that brings together globally minded design and local heritage.
