We caught up with two Sydneysiders who recently sold their Adelaide home for 20 percent more than the expected sale price. Here’s how they did it.

You made the move from Sydney to Adelaide four years ago, and recently sold up and moved back. In an oversaturated real estate market, how did you find the right agent to sell your home?
When we decided to move to Adelaide from Sydney over four years ago, we contacted a few agents regarding properties for sale. Georgie Todd from Harris Real Estate was one of the agents we spoke to about a listing she had. Even though she knew we were not going to purchase the property she was listing, she thoroughly explained to us the process of buying a property in Adelaide – unlike some other agents who were a bit dismissive.
Four years later, when we came to sell the property we had bought in Malvern, we visited several open homes to check out how agents interacted with purchasers. Again, we were impressed with Georgie’s positive attitude and willingness to help. So, we chose her to sell our home.
What was it about her approach that influenced your choice?
Georgie was honest in her opinions, communicated her proposed sales process well and was very amenable to our suggestions and input to the campaign. We found some other agents tried to influence us with solutions that suited their brand rather than the needs of us as the sellers. Georgie was also very helpful with the stylist selections and provided assistance on the timing.

What initiatives did Georgie employ that helped improve the end result?
Having bought and sold many houses interstate over the years, we would place Georgie at the top of our list. She guided us through the various offers that came in and helped us understand who was a potential purchaser and who was not. She had clearly done her homework in relation to the buyers and the level of offer-competitiveness that they would likely achieve.
