Out with the old
Gutting your wardrobe may feel like a massive undertaking, but trust us, the process is cathartic. Start by envisioning the style you want and sort through your clothes to find items that suit this. Prioritise quality over quantity and consider what pieces are transeasonal. Unsure of the fit? Try it on. And don’t hold onto items because you think you could like them. Chances are you won’t.
An organising system is your best friend in this scenario. How you decide to divvy up clothes is up to you, but we recommend sorting piles into keep, sell and donate.
Rent-a-rack
Embrace sustainability and give your clothes a second lease of life by renting a rack at Prelove. It’s a win-win for your wardrobe and wallet! You’ll find this chain of up-market second-hand boutiques in convenient locations like West Lakes, Hove and a new Marion store.
There are three options to choose from: small (35 coat hangers, four shoes/bags), medium (65 coat hangers, five shoes/bags) or large (100 coat hangers, eight shoes/bags). From there, you’ll need to price your items. Prelove recommends putting yourself in customer’s shoes and asking how much you would pay for the piece if you found it at the second-hand boutique. Don’t forget to add 10 percent to account for the commission price!
Once you’ve priced your pieces, Prelove will do all the heavy lifting. They will supply unlimited coat hangers and security tags for your clothes, and you can top up your rack at anytime throughout the rental period. The minimum booking period is seven days, but if you’re just getting started, Prelove recommends two weeks for the best results! Who knew a spring clean could be so easy?
