Milestone Moment

Celebrating Orbe’s 30 years in the industry, co-founders Ida Trimacco and Joe Cimmino reflect on the ideas, experiences and attitudes that allow the multi-award winning salon to create transformative experiences for every client.

“Your hair is the ultimate accessory”, says ORBE co-founder and co-director Ida Trimacco, reflecting on the impact of the leading salon she and Joe Cimmino started 30 years ago.

Buoyed by its forward-thinking attitude, experienced staff and dedication to putting people first, the Norwood and North Adelaide salons have become an institution for style, education and creativity. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t come across ORBE’s reputation. “We are in the service industry, which is all about making people look and feel good. This has been part of our ethos since the beginning,” adds Joe. “We are also driven to be at the forefront of our industry – and to do that, you must reinvent the business.”

Keeping their finger on the pulse of what’s in fashion, emerging products and evolving technology has allowed the ORBE team to stay ahead of the curve for the last three decades. When the salon first launched in 1994, Ida and Joe’s goal was to develop a high-end, influential salon. Little has changed in their mission statement, with the pair consistently investing in their staff and their development to retain their position as market leaders.

This has seen ORBE recognised for their efforts on the national stage, winning State Salon of The Year (three times!) at the Australian Hair Industry Awards and taking home the title of SA Small Training Provider of the Year in 2020 at the Australian Training Awards. They’ve also contributed to numerous Fashion Weeks and sponsored charity events for pivotal local not-for-profits such as Catherine House and KickStart for Kids. “It’s rewarding to help the community and make a difference,” says Joe.

However, Ida says one of her greatest achievements has been navigating the growth of ORBE alongside Joe for 30 years. “There is something special about owning your own business. To do it for three decades with someone who continues to share the same passion and drive is quite amazing.”

What’s more, ORBE’s genuine passion for helping people feel their best is always front of mind. “We believe in what we do,” says Ida. “Our customers are the centre of our philosophy, operations and ideas. But we offer them something more – we want people to feel welcome and have a sense of belonging. ORBE is a place where we can make them feel amazing and reveal their full potential.”
