No Time to Train? Meet Your New Solution

Say goodbye to excuses and experience the efficiency of Kieser – physiotherapy and 30-minute personalised strength training on unique Swiss designed machinery.

The health benefits of strength training are something we’ve known about for a while, but the combination of strength training and physiotherapy at Kieser is unique. The ‘Kieser Method’ is based on the key principles of exercise science and supported by decades of research and proven results from over 150 Kieser centres worldwide (one of which is right here in Adelaide).

It’s a philosophy that originated in Switzerland with the aim of treating issues caused by a lack of strength. The equipment is Swiss designed and works to target specific muscle groups, while the scientific approach promotes safe, effective training. We caught up with mum-of-two, Kylie, who has been going to the Kieser Norwood clinic for just over six months, to find out about her journey to wellness.

Meet Kylie

Kylie is a 52-year-old South Australian mum with two young children.
She works as a netball coach and across various other coaching roles. Kylie enjoys travelling and wants to do more travel with her partner into their retirement, but also wants to be able to keep up with her daughters as they become teenagers and continue to actively coach and participate in sports for work. She went to Kieser seeking guidance and support, and to build a regular exercise and strength training routine that could also support her mood, energy levels and improve her health.

After working one-on-one with a physiotherapist for three weeks, which included an introduction to strength training, Kylie transitioned into Assisted Training, where she worked with the exercise science team. Kylie has now progressed to training independently in the clinic twice a week.

What appealed to you about the Kieser combination of strength training and physiotherapy?

I think it’s just so much easier having both at the same location. If I need physio I can book it back-to-back with a 30-minute session.

What were your health ailments and how has your treatment at Kieser helped?

I hadn’t exercised properly for several years after having vertigo, chronic neck pain and knee pain. The only exercise I was doing was walking and just ‘on the flat’, no stairs or hikes with hills. I was worried that if I couldn’t get fit now, I wouldn’t be mobile enough to travel and do things in retirement.

I have completed strength tests at Kieser that prove I’m stronger, but I can also feel it and I have more energy. I’m doing activities like playing tennis with my kids and hiking.

Talk us through your treatment plan.

My current plan has eight different exercises/machines and works my neck, biceps, triceps, abdominals, lower back, glutes and legs. I had Assisted Training for five months and I now do independent sessions, although I still see the same exercise scientist for some strength and review sessions.

How many times a week do you have to do the exercises to see the benefits?

I am seeing the benefits from going twice a week for half an hour – and it’s not just an improvement in strength, I’ve lost a few kilos as well!

How involved are the physiotherapists in regard to your training?

It’s good to know they’re there when you need them; they always check in to see how you’re going. If I’ve had a sore neck the physio can adjust my program and I know I can continue to exercise safely. If I want to change my program the exercise scientist might also discuss it with the physio before any changes are made. They work together to help you.

The exercise machines at Kieser are different to those found at
a normal gym and are designed to target specific muscle groups, what difference do you think this makes to the overall effectiveness of your workout?

I think it makes a huge difference. The fact that you can do it twice
a week for 30 minutes and have results is great when you’re busy. For me, it’s the ease of the machines and the support and guidance of the staff in a setting that is much nicer than a gym.
