New Venues To Try

New faces we’re welcoming to Adelaide’s hospo scene…

Latteria

From the brains behind Osteria Oggi comes Latteria, a cosy cocktail bar tucked away on Hutt Street. Aperitivo hour in Milan was a main influence for this art-deco, wooden-clad bar, creating a space for restaurant-goers to duck in for a drink before a long dinner at one of the precinct’s iconic restaurants. Of course, the food served inside this cool haunt is also outstanding – moreish bar snacks paired perfectly with bitter Aperol are the stars of a menu that stretches up to main courses. Crunchy cannolo with whipped ricotta, prosciutto and spiced honey, chargrilled octopus skewers and risotto ‘al salto’ are just some courses to expect at this buzzy new venue. Did we mention they have an excellent rotation of DJs every weekend?

Ondeen

Ondeen is the spot for long lunches. Chef Kane Pollard, winemaker Rose Kentish and managing director Deborah Kingsbury took the task of transforming the heritage-listed site of Maximillian’s (c.1850) upon themselves, and the result is otherworldly. A desire to forage, grow and source produce from the local community underpins the small plates menu, which is also designed to reduce the food waste issues common in hospitality. Charcoal pork scotch with celeriac and preserved blueberries, cool weather oysters with botanical vodka dressing and local fish baked in cabbage, saltbush butter and braised potatoes are some seasonally-inspired courses you can enjoy. Savour these flavours alongside nips of Full Circle Spirits gin or vodka, whisky sours and seasonal spritzes. Did we mention there’s dessert, too?

Aces

Italian institution Aces is back, but not as we know it. New owner Tom Tilbury (exPress* Food & Wine) has moved the Italo diner that held residency in the Central Markets for three decades 110m down the road to open in Chinatown. These new Gouger Street surrounds have inspired a reinvented dining concept Tilbury is dubbing ‘Yum-Ciao’ – a service that melds homely Italian courses with the small plates style of Chinese Yum Cha. Think courses of grilled oysters with pancetta and pink pepper vinaigrette, Southern rock lobster ravioli or bone-in parmesan and herb veal cotoletta with Sunday sauce. There’s also boujie dining space and the Renzo bar serving ‘drinks, snacks and good times’. A must try!

A Place Coffee

The community of cafes, coffee shops and cool eateries in Bowden have gained another cute venue! A Place Coffee is a pint-sized café dedicated to brewing bean juice. It’ll be slinging espressos, pourovers and speedy batch brew coffees Monday to Saturday AM inside a light and bright timber-clad home. And while it’s primarily focused on servicing those craving caffeine, A Place Coffee also sells a selection of freshly baked pastries and other bread-based goods from local suppliers – we recommend trying a pandan lamington with your seasonal espresso blend.
