Here’s just some of what the first weekend of August has in store.
Melbourne Street Open Air Gallery Art Trail | North Adelaide | From August 3

To celebrate the start of the open-access visual arts festival SALA, go on an art trail to ignite your creativity. Launching this weekend, people can wander North Adelaide’s Melbourne Street to admire artwork on walls and shopfronts. More than 20 large-scale images by South Australian artists Frank Grauso, Mark Kimber, Loene Furler, Deborah Paauwe and Mary Ann Santin will be on show 24/7 this month. If you want a truly behind-the-scenes look, there’s the chance to tag along to free one-hour walking tour of the trail with the artists.
Urban Wine Walk | Norwood | August 5

The streets and laneways of Norwood will come alive as bars and restaurants line up a series of tastings from a range of wineries. Think of it as a new-age pub crawl. Simply decide which venue you’d like to start from and you’re off. Choose your own adventure as you and your friends move from venue to venue tasting delicious drops.
Turn Up Your Radio: Celebrating Adelaide’s Music Scene | Adelaide Festival Theatre | August 5

Turn up to hear things get loud! To celebrate the Adelaide Festival Centre’s 50th birthday, check out the Turn Up Your Radio: Celebrating Adelaide’s Music Scene exhibition featuring original objects, costumes, photographs and posters from South Australia’s best-known musicians (think home-grown talents like Sia and Cold Chisel), plus national and international artists who have performed at the Festival Theatre.
FRIDA INSPIRED KIDS ART WORKSHOPS | Adelaide Central Market (eastern roadway) | Starts August 5

Let the little ones unleash their creativity in a free art workshop inspired by iconic Mexican painter and artist Frida Kahlo (pictured above on a street building in Mexico). Held every Saturday in August, the workshops will teach kids to paint self-portraits and make cacti sculptures, sombreros, flower crowns, and much more. Inspired by Frida’s famous pieces, the workshops celebrate Frida & Diego: Love & Revolution exhibited at the Art Gallery of South Australia. While bookings aren’t required, there may be short wait times if the workshop is full.
